Chapter Beginnings
The first sorority at Santa Barbara — then a state college — had its beginnings in 1924 as Alpha Theta Chi. The group’s founders, undaunted by college opposition, received campus recognition in 1925. Other groups followed. When eight NPC groups were welcomed in 1950, Alpha Theta Chi, with its 25-year history, became Gamma Rho Chapter at University of California, Santa Barbara.
Notable Thetas
From the very beginning, Theta alumnae have distinguished themselves in their careers and their volunteer endeavors. In fact, some are so well-known that they’re household names, and many have the distinction of being the first women in their professional fields. The archives takes this opportunity to recognize some of our more notable sisters.
