Chapter Beginnings
Gamma Delta Chapter at the University of Georgia received its charter in 1937. One year later, a classic Greek revival style home — built in Athens between 1856 and 1857 — was purchased for the chapter. This purchase and subsequent renovations rescued the mansion from ruin and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Historic American Building Survey.
Notable Thetas
From the very beginning, Theta alumnae have distinguished themselves in their careers and their volunteer endeavors. In fact, some are so well-known that they’re household names, and many have the distinction of being the first women in their professional fields. The archives takes this opportunity to recognize some of our more notable sisters.
