This fall, the Thetas in Higher Education Mentoring Program is happening on ThetaConnect! This mentoring program enables collegians and alumnae to meet and network with alumnae already established in the field and have marked their profiles as “Willing to Help” or “Willing to Mentor.” This program is a great way to not only make Theta connections, but also to learn from others who want to share more about the higher education field and guide younger members.
The Thetas in Higher Education Mentoring Program is open for signups now through Friday, Sept. 20. The program will run from Sept. 30 to Dec. 6. After the signup period ends, ThetaConnect will automatically match participants based on their profile data. The entire program will take place on ThetaConnect. During the duration of the program, mentors and mentees will be expected to complete program milestones that include:
- Meet & Greet
- Interview and Résumé Prep
- Professional Tips
- Your Choice! (Whatever the pairing would like to discuss.)
- Program Survey
Each week, mentors and mentees will receive messages from the group’s admin containing tips, to-dos, or things to consider when meeting with your pairing. All Thetas who participate in the program and complete the Program Survey and each weekly milestone will receive an online certificate of completion to share on social media, particularly LinkedIn, to show others what you accomplished during the program.
To register:
- Visit ThetaConnect at http://thetaconnect.org (and join if you haven’t already!).
- Click on Event Board > Thetas in Higher Education Program Registration.
- Update your ThetaConnect profile so it has the most current information about you and your career goals to make a good pairing.
Note that there is no guarantee a pairing will take place and pairing is dependent on the number of potential mentees and mentors who register. If you are not paired, you will be notified the last week of September.)
If you are not a higher education major and are interested in participating in mentoring, you can always find your own mentor at any time by going to the Mentoring area and choosing Find a Mentor. You can search for potential Theta mentors by job function, company, or industry. You can also chat with other Thetas in your career by visiting the Groups area and clicking on the Career label. Does your career not have a Group in ThetaConnect? Create a new group and become a group admin!
Please direct any questions about the program to thetaconnect@kappaalphatheta.org or visit the Thetas in Higher Education Mentoring Program folder in the ThetaConnect Resources area for more information.
