Answering the Call: Celebrating Theta Volunteers

At Kappa Alpha Theta, we are excited to celebrate the National Panhellenic Conference’s (NPC’s) Advisor Appreciation Month and our own Volunteer Appreciation Week right now as a part of National Volunteer Week. While we feel grateful for our volunteers each day for all they selflessly give to our organization, this month, we reflect on all our volunteers' countless contributions to this beloved sisterhood.

I have the privilege of overseeing several different initiatives to help Theta volunteers feel the love throughout the year, including our High Five Fridays program: Five volunteers are highlighted on ThetaConnect and Facebook every other Friday. I receive nominations from staff and other volunteers regarding the contributions of volunteers in all types of roles, including advisory board members, workforce volunteers, alumnae chapter officers, and more. I am consistently in awe as I read through stories of volunteers going above and beyond for our organization to meet the needs of our members.

Some of the words I hear often are dedication and commitment. Our volunteers are consistent and reliable, and they can be counted on to follow through on everything that is asked of them in their roles.

Below are some memorable themes that have come up repeatedly as I read stories of how our Theta volunteers have made an impact in members’ lives.

• Selflessly giving of time, putting other priorities on pause to give volunteering their all during certain seasons
• Supporting other members, whether in college chapters or alumnae chapters
• Taking on the time-consuming tasks of planning and leading excellent events
• Handling difficult situations with love and emotional intelligence
• Pushing past the status quo to move forward on a change to better the organization
• Finding creative ways to increase engagement
• Serving as a role model and a mentor, both as a Theta and personally
• Developing resources and processes for members to utilize for years to come

We are so grateful for all our volunteers. They exceed expectations to benefit this amazing sisterhood. Volunteering can be challenging and complex, but our Theta volunteers make it look easy! From our entire organization, thank you to our volunteers, this month and always.
